One week to go to AIMS. We are SO ready. There will be NO flex grouping this week as we all review concepts in preparation for AIMS.

I am proud to announce that I have been chosen as a Great Teacher of Great Books by the Great Books Foundation in Chicago. I have been invited to come to Chicago in April with 12 other teachers from across the United States. We will attend an awards dinner in our honor and to be the Foundation's guests at Chicago 2008, an annual cultural event for Great Books enthusiasts from across the country.

Science Expo: Thank you for your patience as we muddle through the process preparing for the Science Expo. Each child should now have an acceptable hypothesis and “materials and procedures” are due Mon., Feb. 4. They have the week to do their experiment and the “analysis and conclusion” are due on Monday the 11th. I will be modeling this in class next week. Be sure to gather data throughout the project. They may begin to work on their display boards when they are ready. The final project is due on Feb. 19. The students need to be prepared to present their project. Please see the rubric in their science packet.

Welcome Mrs. Deacon

Mrs. Theresa Deacon will be student teaching with me beginning in January and concluding in March. Mrs. Deacon has finished her coursework at the University of Phoenix. She has been in our classroom much of the 1st semester as a volunteer. Under my supervision, she will be working with my homeroom class and all of my Flex groups; reading, writing and math. She is already a valued member of our 4th grade teaching team.
